Having retired from international football three years ago, Basher Saeed, the Al Wahda central defender, is to return to the UAE squad for their 2014 World Cup qualifier in South Korea on October 11.
What was your reaction when you were asked to return from international retirement?
Firstly, I wouldn't have been even considered for selection if I wasn't performing in the domestic competitions. Secondly, I don't want to let down my country and I am ready to fight for them.
Do you still think you have a chance of staying in the World Cup race?
The chances are very slim but we will go out there and give it our best shot. It is a very critical game and a good result can revive our chances.
Why did you retire from internationals when you were still considered one of the best defenders in the country?
I decided to quit from international matches because I couldn't give 100 per cent commitment to the national team. The pressure was too much because I also wanted to spend time with my family.
Now that you have returned to the national team after more than three years, will you continue?
It depends on how long they want me to be in the team. Hamdan [Al Kamali] was injured and the coach, Abdullah Misfir, asked me if I was available. I said, if he had no other choices, I was prepared to join the squad. After all it is for my country.

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood
Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.
“All across the Middle East, countries have banned and proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood as a dangerous organisation. We will do the very same.”
It is 10 years since a ground-breaking report into the Muslim Brotherhood by Sir John Jenkins.
Among the former diplomat's findings was an assessment that “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” has “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
The prime minister at the time, David Cameron, who commissioned the report, said membership or association with the Muslim Brotherhood was a "possible indicator of extremism" but it would not be banned.
