- Israel carried out several strikes on southern Lebanon after issuing eviction orders for five villages and warning of attacks across the area. Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun slammed Israel’s actions.
- The UN Security Council voted to remove Syrian President Ahmad Al Shara from the world body’s sanctions list. China abstained from the vote, saying the measure did not "reflect the principles" it had advocated on Syria's sovereignty and counter-terrorism efforts. The US had pushed for the vote ahead of Mr Al Shara's forthcoming Washington visit.
- US President Donald Trump announced that Kazakhstan would be joining the Abraham Accords. The country already has diplomatic relations with Israel so the move is largely symbolic. Mr Trump said more countries would sign up to the accords.
- Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said it has agreed to a proposal from the US to pause more than two years of civil war with a humanitarian ceasefire. The military-aligned government did not immediately comment on the RSF's announcement.
- Foreign ministry sources told Syrian state news that a Reuters report about the US preparing to set up an airbase in Syria was false. The report stated that the base would be located in the south, in an area expected to become a demilitarised zone as part of a non-aggression pact between Israel and Syria.

- Hannibal Qaddafi, son of former Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, is set to be released after 10 years in custody in Lebanon, a senior Lebanese official told The National, adding that his $11 million bail has been reduced to $900,000 and his travel ban removed.
- Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian teenager during a raid in a town west of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, health authorities said.
- Mr Trump said Iran has asked for heavy US sanctions to be lifted and that he would be open to having a discussion about it.
- The US is reportedly pressuring Israel to allow about 200 Hamas fighters stuck in a tunnel network in the Israeli-controlled side of Gaza to leave safely, Hebrew media reported.
- Senior Iraqi Shiite cleric Moqtada Al Sadr reiterated his call to supporters to refrain from protesting until after the parliamentary elections on November 11, encouraging them to express their discontent on social media. Mr Al Sadr also said he remains firm in his boycott of the vote.
- UAE President Sheikh Mohamed described family as a “vital pillar of our nation’s future progress” as he attended the Government Annual Meetings on their final day in Abu Dhabi and designated 2026 as the "Year of the Family".

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

A number of other items said to come from the collection of Ezeldeen Taha Eldarir are currently or recently for sale.
Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.
- An Egyptian Mummy mask dating from 700BC-30BC, is on offer for £11,807 ($15,275) online by a seller in Mexico
- A coffin lid dating back to 664BC-332BC was offered for sale by a Colorado-based art dealer, with a starting price of $65,000
- A shabti that was on sale through a Chicago-based coin dealer, dating from 1567BC-1085BC, is up for $1,950
