The Selfie: a silly moment

  • English
  • Arabic

The selfie started as perhaps the least inventive aspect of social media. What do you post on Facebook, Twitter or Instragram when you can't think of anything else to share? A picture of you, right here, right now.

Nowadays, the selfie is a worldwide craze. But, let’s face it, not exactly a game changer. When we are already seeing celebrities gracing their social media channels with the belfie (if you don’t know, don’t ask), we need to wonder how ridiculous it will get.

Thankfully, if we are to take David Bailey’s word for it, the selfie craze will soon be over. The 76-year-old British photographer, who is pictured here attending the opening for his show at London's National Portrait Gallery told Reuters on Monday that it was a “silly moment” that would pass.

"People won't be doing it in six months' time. There will be another craze, I can't see the point,” he said.

David, I couldn’t agree more!

* "Bailey's Stardust", which opens on February 6, features 250 portraits spanning his 55-year career.
