Bahamas police are investigating the death of three Americans under mysterious circumstances at a Sandals resort.
"I have been regretfully informed today of the death of three American visitors, two men and a woman, at a resort property on Exuma," the Bahamas' acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper said in a statement on Sunday.
While the cause of death is not known, Mr Cooper said "foul play is not suspected".
He expressed his condolences for the victims' families and said a fourth American woman had been flown to a hospital in the capital Nassau.
The three Americans were found unresponsive on Friday morning in their villas at the Sandals Emerald Bay resort.
"A health emergency was initially reported and, following our protocols, we immediately alerted emergency medical professionals and relevant local authorities," the resort said in a statement, declining to give further details to protect their guests' privacy.
Police arrived at the first villa shortly after 9am on Friday, where they found a man lying unresponsive on the floor, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a statement. They said there were no signs of trauma.
Officers were then directed to a second villa, where they found a second man "slumped against a wall in a bathroom unresponsive". A woman was found unresponsive on a bed, the police statement said.
Though there were no signs of trauma, police said, the couple showed "signs of convulsion".
Police said the couple had complained of "illness" the evening before and had attended a medical unit for treatment before returning to their villa.
Of
ficers said they are still waiting for autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
The US State Department said it is monitoring the investigation, USA Today reported.
