US car maker General Motors announced it is developing an electrified version of its Chevrolet Corvette, which could arrive as soon as 2023.
"We will offer an electrified and a fully electric, Ultium-based Corvette in the future," GM president Mark Reuss said on social-networking site LinkedIn.
"In fact, we will offer an electrified Corvette as early as next year."
Mr Reuss said details and names of the car would be announced later.
A video posted on Chevy's YouTube channel showed the electrified version of the Corvette, featuring a modern paint job, driving through a snowy landscape.
GM has been working on expanding its Corvette line, including a crossover, as it moves towards an all-electric future, Bloomberg reported.
Mr Reuss's announcement on Monday was the first time GM confirmed its intentions for an electric Corvette model.
The announcement comes as other traditional car makers make the change to electric to compete with Tesla.
The Detroit car maker plans to invest up to $35 billion into electric and autonomous vehicles by 2025 to compete with Elon Musk's electric vehicle company.
GM plans to sell more than 1 million electric vehicles annually by 2025. The company previously said it would introduce 30 new EVs by that year.
It announced a partnership with Japanese-based maker Honda this month to produce "affordable electric vehicles" beginning in 2027.
