Who let the dogs in? Dogs return to White House after four years

Champ and Major Biden have arrived to their new home.

The two German Shepherds have joined their parents Jill Biden and President Joe Biden at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Champ, the elder of the two, is no stranger to political life. He has been with the Bidens since 2008 and lived with them during their time as vice president and second lady.

Major is a relatively new member of the family. The Bidens adopted him from the Delaware Humane Society in November 2018. He is the first shelter dog to reside at the White House.

In November, Mr Biden fractured his right foot while playing with the youthful Major and had to wear a walking boot for several weeks.

Over the years, the White House has been home to dozens of dogs and other pets, but former president Donald Trump did not carry on that tradition, even going so far as to ridicule the idea.

While not a big part of their campaign strategy, the Biden team played to American dog lovers and promoted the idea of putting dogs back in the White House.

The first lady has apparently flirted with the idea of bringing a cat on board as well.

But for now, Champ and Major have the run of the house.

Why are you, you?

Why are you, you?
From this question, a new beginning.
From this question, a new destiny.
For you are a world, and a meeting of worlds.
Our dream is to unite that which has been
separated by history.
To return the many to the one.
A great story unites us all,
beyond colour and creed and gender.
The lightning flash of art
And the music of the heart.
We reflect all cultures, all ways.
We are a twenty first century wonder.
Universal ideals, visions of art and truth.
Now is the turning point of cultures and hopes.
Come with questions, leave with visions.
We are the link between the past and the future.
Here, through art, new possibilities are born. And
new answers are given wings.

Why are you, you?
Because we are mirrors of each other.
Because together we create new worlds.
Together we are more powerful than we know.
We connect, we inspire, we multiply illuminations
with the unique light of art.
