Four people were stabbed after clashes erupted at a pro-Trump rally in Washington, DC.
Authorities made 23 arrests.
The stabbing victims were in critical condition, according to the Washington DC Metropolitan Police's public affairs department.
A crowd rallied in the US capital on Saturday in support of President Donald Trump and his allegations that the presidential election was stolen.
The president, riding in his official helicopter, flew over the cheering crowd. Thousands joined the protest.
Later in the evening, skirmishes were reported after counter-protesters appeared at the location.
Police, some in anti-riot gear, used their bodies and bicycles to keep the pro-Trump and counter-protesters apart.
There was also at least one clash between police and counter-protesters.
The clashes in Washington came a day after the Supreme Court threw out a plea to overturn the results in four key states, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
In the crowd for the protest were supporters of several c onservative groups, but also about 200 who claimed to be Proud Boys – a group with a record of violence.
As Marine One, the president’s official helicopter, flew overhead, Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser who was pardoned by Mr Trump, was speaking on stage.
“That’s pretty cool. Imagine just being able to jump in a helicopter and just go for a joyride around Washington,” said Mr Flynn, a retired army general.
The outgoing president was officially flying to see the traditional Army-Navy football game at West Point Military Academy, in New York state.
"Whatever the ruling was yesterday ... everybody take a deep, deep breath," Mr Flynn said.
Mr Flynn, who twice pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about contacts with a former Russian ambassador, was making his first public address since his pardon last month.
"My charge to you is to go back to where you are from" and make demands, he told the crowd, without being more specific. The US Constitution is "not about collective liberty it is about individual liberties, and they designed it that way", Mr Flynn said.
Stop The Steal, a group linked to pro-Trump operative Roger Stone, conservative organisations and church groups, were involved in arranging the protest.
Trump supporters carrying flags and signs made their way in small knots towards Congress and the Supreme Court through Washington's city centre, which was shut off to traffic.
Few protesters wore masks, despite soaring Covid-19 deaths and cases, and despite a DC mayoral directive for them to be worn outside.
Several thousand people rallied in Washington, fewer than during a similar protest last month.
About 200 Proud Boys were seen joining the march near the Trump Hotel in the city. Many wore combat fatigues, ballistic vests and carried helmets.
An articulated vehicle flew Trump 2020 flags and a sign reading "Trump Unity" while blaring the country song God Bless the USA.
Some Washington protesters echoed far-right conspiracy theories about the election.
"It's clear the election has been stolen," said Mark Paul Jones, of Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania, who wore a tricorne Revolutionary War hat.
More than 50 federal and state court rulings have upheld Mr Biden’s victory.
Conflict, drought, famine
Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the famine range from 400,000 to 1 million, according to a document prepared for the UK House of Lords in 2024.
It has been claimed that the policies of the Ethiopian government, which took control after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie in a military-led revolution in 1974, contributed to the scale of the famine.
Dr Miriam Bradley, senior lecturer in humanitarian studies at the University of Manchester, has argued that, by the early 1980s, “several government policies combined to cause, rather than prevent, a famine which lasted from 1983 to 1985. Mengistu’s government imposed Stalinist-model agricultural policies involving forced collectivisation and villagisation [relocation of communities into planned villages].
The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a “biblical famine” and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation.
Band Aid
Bob Geldof, singer with the Irish rock group The Boomtown Rats, formed Band Aid in response to the horrific images shown in the news broadcasts.
With Midge Ure of the band Ultravox, he wrote the hit charity single Do They Know it’s Christmas in December 1984, featuring a string of high-profile musicians.

Live Aid was a series of simultaneous concerts that took place at Wembley Stadium in London, John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, the US, and at various other venues across the world.
The combined event was broadcast to an estimated worldwide audience of 1.5 billion.

Why are asylum seekers being housed in hotels?
The number of asylum applications in the UK has reached a new record high, driven by those illegally entering the country in small boats crossing the English Channel.
A total of 111,084 people applied for asylum in the UK in the year to June 2025, the highest number for any 12-month period since current records began in 2001.
Asylum seekers and their families can be housed in temporary accommodation while their claim is assessed.
The Home Office provides the accommodation, meaning asylum seekers cannot choose where they live.
When there is not enough housing, the Home Office can move people to hotels or large sites like former military bases.

1 The kind of water athletes drink is important. What is the FNC?
The Federal National Council is one of five federal authorities established by the UAE constitution. It held its first session on December 2, 1972, a year to the day after Federation.
It has 40 members, eight of whom are women. The members represent the UAE population through each of the emirates. Abu Dhabi and Dubai have eight members each, Sharjah and Ras al Khaimah six, and Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain have four.
They bring Emirati issues to the council for debate and put those concerns to ministers summoned for questioning.
The FNC’s main functions include passing, amending or rejecting federal draft laws, discussing international treaties and agreements, and offering recommendations on general subjects raised during sessions.
Federal draft laws must first pass through the FNC for recommendations when members can amend the laws to suit the needs of citizens. The draft laws are then forwarded to the Cabinet for consideration and approval.
Since 2006, half of the members have been elected by UAE citizens to serve four-year terms and the other half are appointed by the Ruler’s Courts of the seven emirates.
In the 2015 elections, 78 of the 252 candidates were women. Women also represented 48 per cent of all voters and 67 per cent of the voters were under the age of 40.
