Marking the end of a tumultuous four years, President Donald Trump departed the White House aboard Marine One on Wednesday morning.
He will receive a military send-off at Maryland's Joint Base Andrews and deliver his final remarks as president.
As he exited the White House, he told reporters that serving as president was “the honour of a lifetime".
“The greatest people in the world, the greatest home in the world," Mr Trump said. “We accomplished a lot.”
Mr Trump will leave Maryland aboard Air Force One to fly to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach. Mr Trump will technically still be President when he lands in Florida as Joe Biden is to be sworn-in at 12 pm EST.
Mr Trump’s early morning departure breaks from tradition as it is customary for outgoing presidents to welcome their successors to the White House on inauguration day.
