The UAE took part in talks in New York on the crisis in Syria led by the United States yesterday as world powers seek a way forward to bring stability to the country.
Dr Anwar Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, participated in the ministerial-level discussions, hosted by the US and part of activities related to the 72nd Session of UN General Assembly.
The meeting was chaired by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and attended by foreign ministers of the Friends of Syria Group as well as representatives of the United Nations and European Union. The Friends of Syria Group includes Germany, France, Egypt, Jordan, Canada, the UK, Saudi Arabia as well as the UAE.

Discussions included the latest military, political and humanitarian developments in Syria and a review of UN peace efforts and Geneva negotiations which concluded in the summer without a breakthrough.
"The ministers agreed on preserving the unity of Syria and pledged to continue the political process to bring stability to Syria. They also expressed their commitment to pursue delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people," Wam reported.
Yesterday, in his first speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, US president Donald Trump called for a "political solution that honours the will of the Syrian people" while labelling Assad government as a "criminal regime".
“The actions of the criminal regime of Bashar Al Assad shock the conscience of every decent person," he said.
