Rockets fired at Israel from Syria by Iran-backed force, military says

Israel's military said on Monday that several rockets were fired towards its territory from Syria by a force backed by Iran, but that they all failed to reach the country.

"Earlier this morning, a number of rockets were launched from Syria towards Israel; all failed to hit Israeli territory," the military said.

It added that Israel considers the Syrian government responsible for any action carried out from their territory.

"The rockets were launched from the outskirts of Damascus by Shiite militia operatives operating under the Iranian Quds Force [the elite wing of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps]," it said.

The Israeli military's announcement came after it was reported that at least 18 pro-Iranian fighters were killed in eastern Syria.

No one claimed responsibility but Iran-backed militias in Iraq have blamed Israel for previous strikes on its positions. Israeli officials have also admitted to operating against Iranian forces inside Syria.
