Eleven people killed in Saudi fire

Eleven people were killed and six others injured in a fire that erupted in a three-bedroom house in the south-western city of Najran in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

The civil defence received a call about the blaze at 4am on Wednesday, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

“The house had no openings or windows for ventilation, and those injured suffered smoke inhalation,” he said. “There are ongoing investigations to know the reason behind the fire.”

The residents of the house were Indian and Bengali nationals.

Also on Wednesday, seven people in Kuwait were injured in an explosion in a pastry shop in the residential area of Mishref.

Kuna, Kuwait’s state news agency, said that initial investigations show the blast was the result of a gas leak from a cooking stove.

Of the seven injured, three were in critical condition and were immediately transferred to hospital.
