A far-right teenager who accused the UK's Prince Harry of being a “race traitor” in a social media forum popular with extremists has been jailed.
British student Michal Szewczuk was jailed for four years and three months for repeatedly posting hate comments on social media.
He used extremism site Gab, which has become a hub for the far right.
It was used to post hate comments by Pittsburgh gunman Robert Bowers before he shot 11 people in the US last year and is now used by UK extremist group Britain First since it was banned from Facebook.
Szewczuk, 19, who was studying computer science at the University of Portsmouth, created an image of Prince Harry with a gun against his head against a blood spattered background and swastika which he shared on the platform last year.
It was posted shortly after the prince’s wedding to Meghan Markle, which the words “see ya later, race traitor”.
On seeing the post, Judge Rebecca Poulet QC told him: "The posts I have seen and read are abhorrent as well as criminal by reason of their clear intention to encourage terrorist acts.
"Individuals were urged to go out and commit appalling acts of violence on others for no reason that can ever be understood by any right-thinking individuals."
When his home in Leeds, northern England was raided, Szewczuk - who also wrote a far-right blog - was caught in possession of terrorist documents, including the White Resistance Manual and the Al Qaeda Trading Manual.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of encouraging terrorism and five counts of possession of terrorist material and was sentenced at London’s Old Bailey court.
A second man, who Szewczuk had only met in a chatroom, was also jailed.
Oskar Dunn-Koczorowski, from London, admitted two counts of encouraging terrorism. He was jailed for 18 months.
His posts included support of Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik, who killed 77 people in 2011.
The pair are both originally from Poland.
The pair were arrested in December by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East following posts on Gab.
Detective Chief Superintendent Martin Snowden said: “Dunn-Koczorowski and Szewczuk clearly see themselves as superior to the majority of society and they feel their duty is to express their beliefs, in turn teaching others.
“The considerable amount of material they have posted on social media channels not only reflects their extremist beliefs but was intended to encourage others to carry out despicable acts.
“Both men have developed and evolved their interest in the extreme right wing ideology over time through research and connecting with like-minded individuals.”
Mr Snowden said the unit was trawling thousands of extreme posts and urged the public to report anyone they saw posting them.
“We will tackle all forms of toxic extremism which has the potential to threaten public safety and security,” he said.
