Turkish Finance Minister Berat Albayrak said on Sunday he was stepping down for health reasons.
An official at Turkey's finance ministry confirmed the news, after which the lira currency firmed more than 1 per cent in early Asian trade.
"I have decided that I cannot continue as a minister, which I have been carrying out for nearly five years, due to health problems," the statement said.
Mr Albayrak, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's son-in-law, became finance minister two years ago after serving in another ministry.
His resignation came a day after Mr Erdogan replaced the central bank governor amid a slump in the Turkish lira.
In late October Mr Albayrak said Turkey's economy was at a turning point, with a new investment flow on the horizon.
He said the new economic model proved itself with exports data through a sufficient competitive exchange rate, increased domestic production and investments, and job creation.

Muslim Council of Elders condemns terrorism on religious sites
The Muslim Council of Elders has strongly condemned the criminal attacks on religious sites in Britain.
It firmly rejected “acts of terrorism, which constitute a flagrant violation of the sanctity of houses of worship”.
“Attacking places of worship is a form of terrorism and extremism that threatens peace and stability within societies,” it said.
The council also warned against the rise of hate speech, racism, extremism and Islamophobia. It urged the international community to join efforts to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
