A Muslim convert admitted a plot to kill 100 people in an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack on the UK’s best-known shopping district.
Lewis Ludlow, 26, planned to drive a van into shoppers on Oxford Street, central London, and researched other potential landmark targets in the capital.
Ludlow’s plans were uncovered after he was stopped by police at Heathrow airport in February as he attempted to board a flight to the Philippines.
A search of his home found his attack plans ripped up in a bin. They were pieced together to reveal potential attack sites including the Madame Tussauds waxworks and St Paul’s Cathedral.
He cited Oxford Street as “ideal” for an attack. “It is expected nearly 100 could be killed in the attack,” he wrote. Ludlow also set up a Facebook account to raise money for ISIS in the Philippines.
Ludlow, from Rochester, southeast England, pleaded guilty on Friday plotting an attack in the UK and funding ISIS abroad. He will be sentenced later this year.
