A man who encouraged terrorist attacks on the Bangladeshi government in online posts has been convicted in the UK.
Munna Hamza, 50, was found guilty on Wednesday of encouraging acts of terrorism in three online posts between 2015 and 2018 after he was reported for encouraging people in Bangladesh to launch attacks. He is due to be sentenced in March.
Commander Richard Smith, head of the Metropolitan Police Counter- Terrorism Command, said: “I praise the member of the public for alerting us to Hamza’s harmful, extremist posts.
“As a result, we were able to prevent him from publishing further incitements of violence and terror, which could have had devastating consequences.”

Tearful appearance
Chancellor Rachel Reeves set markets on edge as she appeared visibly distraught in parliament on Wednesday.
Legislative setbacks for the government have blown a new hole in the budgetary calculations at a time when the deficit is stubbornly large and the economy is struggling to grow.
She appeared with Keir Starmer on Thursday and the pair embraced, but he had failed to give her his backing as she cried a day earlier.
A spokesman said her upset demeanour was due to a personal matter.
