ABU DHABI // Police patrols are being increased during Eid Al Adha, which starts on Tuesday, to ensure a safe and steady flow of traffic.
Officers will have a greater presence at abattoirs to help ease the congestion from crowds of Muslim customers bringing livestock for slaughter.
Capt Abdullah Al Qubaisi, head of traffic control at Abu Dhabi traffic and patrols directorate, urged motorists not to park haphazardly outside abattoirs and to adhere to the instructions of traffic officers.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi tourism police will be present at the city’s attractions to ensure the safety of residents and holidaymakers.
Officers are handing out awareness brochures in many languages with information about leisure activities and traditional values.
“The tourism police section has taken a number of precautionary measures in the interest of the community, particularly in sites that attract large numbers of tourists who are coming to the UAE to enjoy the Eid holidays,” said Lt Col Mazyad Fahd Al Oteibi, the section’s head.
The Ministry of Interior has called on motorists to comply with speed limits and take precautions to avoid accidents during the holidays.
Brig Gen Ghaith Al Zaabi, the director general of traffic coordination at the ministry, urged drivers to adhere to traffic regulations, keep a safe distance from other vehicles and park only in designated areas.
