ABU DHABI // The Zakat Fund has launched an electronic programme it says will give its female employees the flexibility to work from home.
"The goal is to maximise the benefit of our human resources," said Abdullah bin Aqeeda al Muhairi, the secretary general of the Zakat Fund.
"About 40 per cent of the Fund's employees are women, and by understanding the nature of the woman when it comes to pregnancy ... we can give her the opportunity to work from home without causing any inconvenience for her."
The announcement came on International Women's Day, and was part of a press conference the Zakat Fund held on Tuesday to announce its latest developments.
The Zakat Fund is a federal body that facilitates obligatory annual charitable donations by Muslims.
The Fund has 48 employees, 18 of whom are women.
Mr al Muhairi explained that the new programme would allow employees to work from a variety on locations outside the office, not only enhancing communication, but also increasing productivity.
"Since we do not have that many staff members, we are trying to make the most of the staff that we do have," he said.
