DUBAI // A workshop was held following the publication of a United Nation’s study on how to improve youth development in the region.
About 40 experts from the region met in Jumeirah Emirates Towers on Sunday to discuss the publication of The Arab Knowledge Report.
The report is a joint initiative between the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme.
It is the third time the report has been published. This year it was entitled “Youth and the Localisation of Knowledge”.
Jamal bin Huwaireb, the managing director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, said the organisation cherishes its relationship with the UNDP.
“We are particularly committed to supporting UNDP’s work on the Arab Knowledge Reports and all the other resources that are in the process of being compiled by the organisation,” he said.
“Our collaboration comes as part of our priority to promote the creation and development of knowledge in the Arab region.”
This year’s report focuses on the need to empower the youth to plug the knowledge gaps in the region outlined in previous years reports.
“The UAE leads by example in its effort to bridge such gaps,” said Mr bin Huwaireb.
“The nation’s achievements in empowering its people speak of the relentless priority given to this area.”
Dr Ghaith Fariz, of the UNDP, said: “We are confident that the latest report will truly serve the human development efforts of this region and help establish a knowledge society in the Arab world.”
