DUBAI // A worker who stabbed his compatriot in the stomach, back and chest, missing his heart by inches, told a court he was acting in self defence.
Q H, 23, from Pakistan, was charged with the attempted murder of M F, 20, on the evening of September 25 last year in Jebel Ali.
“I did not mean to kill him, he attacked me and I had to defend myself so I stabbed him,” Q H told the Dubai Criminal Court. He also presented an official document stating that the victim had dropped his rights in the case.
Prosecutors said that Q H lured M F to his room after claiming he had found his lost bank cash machine card. “As we entered the room he asked me to sit and then locked the door and turned off the lights,” said M F, who saw Q H take out a fruit knife he was hiding in his trousers.
“He stabbed me in the left and right sides of my abdomen then below my heart and in my back,” said M F.
M F resisted and managed to grab part of the knife before unlocking the door.
M G, from Pakistani, said he heard screams coming from the Q H’s room while he was in the shower. “I ran to Q H’s room but the door was locked, the screams continued then the door opened and M F fell in a pool of his own blood right under our feet,” M G said.
Prosecutors’ records state that the defendant confessed to planning his attack 15 minutes beforehand.
The next hearing will be held on August 16 to appoint a lawyer for Q H.

“It can be a guide to a healthy lifestyle and exercise if used in the correct way, so I really encourage my clients to download health applications” said Mrs Torrena.
People can also connect with each other and exchange “tips and notes, it’s extremely healthy and fun”.

Moment of the day Pakistan’s effort in the field had hints of shambles about it. The wheels were officially off when Wahab Riaz lost his run up and aborted the delivery four times in a row. He re-measured his run, jogged in for two practice goes. Then, when he was finally ready to go, he bailed out again. It was a total cringefest.
Stat of the day – 139.5 Yasir Shah has bowled 139.5 overs in three innings so far in this Test series. Judged by his returns, the workload has not withered him. He has 14 wickets so far, and became history’s first spinner to take five-wickets in an innings in five consecutive Tests. Not bad for someone whose fitness was in question before the series.
The verdict Stranger things have happened, but it is going to take something extraordinary for Pakistan to keep their undefeated record in Test series in the UAE in tact from this position. At least Shan Masood and Sami Aslam have made a positive start to the salvage effort.
