ABU DHABI // A man was being questioned by police psychologists yesterday after a woman was stabbed to death inside an apartment lift.
The man was seen running away after the incident in an apartment block in the Tourist Club Area behind the Jumaa al Majid building.
"The watchman caught him and called the police," said Fahad al Jaberi, of Abu Dhabi Police. Both men were taken to the psychological crime section of the CID.
"After any murder, people are taken to the psychological section in case the person involved is mentally disturbed. The watchman was taken in as well since he reported the accident," the officer explained.
Mohammed Kunhi, who works in Barakat grocery store on the ground floor of the building, said he saw the woman, a Filipina in her 30s, walk in with the man, who appeared to be in his 50s, around noon.
The next thing he saw was the man attempting to escape and getting caught by the watchman.
"I did not hear or see any previous arguments involving this woman, or anyone else in the building before. This is the first time something like this happens," he added.
Ahmad, a Jordanian living on the sixth floor, said he walked into the building and saw the woman's body lying on the floor and her face covered in blood.
