SHARJAH // The Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah has confiscated four wolves from a home in Al Sabkha area.
Hana Saif Al Sweidi, director of the EPAA, said the animals were seized after they received numerous complaints from residents in the area.
A specialist team trained in handling wild animals from the EPAA, with assistance from Sharjah Police and the municipality, caught the wild animals.
In November last year, Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, issued an administrative order prohibiting residents of the emirate from owning dangerous predators.
Anyone who is found to be illegally in possession of a banned animal will be fined Dh100,000.
The deadline for handing over the wild animals to the EPAA was December 23 last year.
The order excludes licensed public and private zoos, scientific research centres and universities.
“The animals are a huge threat to the safety of the residents in the emirate. The ban will make sure that no one will be hurt again,” said Miss Al Sweidi.
