Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, announced that the introduction of the new residency permit means that "any employee anywhere in the world can reside in the UAE to practice work remotely even if the company is not present in the country".

The UAE decision comes at a time where work from home has increased due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as more and more workers have the flexibility to work from home.
