ABU DHABI // Parliamentarians from 15 Nato nations will gather in the capital this week for a two-day meeting that will discuss reform and security in the Middle East. The WAM news agency reports that legislators from Middle East and North African countries will meet with Nato representatives on Wednesday and Thursday for the seminar hosted by the Federal National Council. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Jose Lello, President of the Nato Parliamentary Assembly, will address the opening ceremony.
The first day's session will be devoted to political reforms made in the Middle East and the energy security challenges faced in the Gulf. Thursday will focus on Gulf security perceptions and the role of Nato. Delegates are expected to discuss the problems faced in intercultural dialogue and suggest improvements. Dr Anwar Gargash, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said: "This strategic meeting contributes to creating a common understanding between Nato countries and the GCC region, and will address the global challenges faced by the Middle East.
"The event will serve as a crucial platform to exchange opinions and experiences and also highlight the political experience of the UAE and the efforts taken to enhance political practices." *WAM
