UAE public and private sectors unite for Innovation Week

ABU DHABI // The country will celebrate Innovation Week 2015 with 800 events and initiatives for six days from Sunday.

All emirates will take part along with 214 participants from federal and local governments and the private sector.

Events will include exhibitions, conferences, workshops and interactive programmes.

National initiatives and international partnerships will be announced during the campaign, besides hosting public activities across the country.

“Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, who has declared 2015 as the Year of Innovation, efforts were stepped up and government policies reviewed towards creating an innovation-friendly environment,” said Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs and chairman of the National Committee for Innovation.

Mr Al Gergawi said: “His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, mobilised public and private sectors to explore new areas with a view to build an innovative community that keeps up with the rapid changes and developments.”

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid yesterday launched Afkari, a government initiative to support and fund the innovative ideas of more than 90,000 federal government employees, to develop their organisations work systems.

“Changing the government system requires courage, ideas, and support for innovation, and we consider our employees as leaders,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
