ABU DHABI // The UAE pavilion at Expo 2017 Astana opened yesterday, showcasing the country’s culture and sustainability advances.
Covering an area more than 980 square metres, the pavilion is the largest at the Expo and can accommodate about 7,000 visitors each day during the three-month exhibition in the Kazakh capital.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, Chairman of the Higher Committee of Expo 2020 Dubai, opened the pavilion in the presence of Dr Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the National Media Council, the Government entity organising, managing and supervising the pavilion, along with senior officials and diplomats.
Visitors will be able to assess the UAE’s development of renewable energy within a setting that highlights the country’s culture, lifestyle and openness to the world.
“The pavilion enables visitors to gain insight into how the UAE has built strong ties with the international community in various areas and fields,” Dr Al Jaber said.
“It underlines our country’s key pillars and future-oriented approach to provide generations with the necessary resources and enablers, setting the foundations for sustainability and stability.”
The NMC is looking forward to communicating the UAE’s pioneering experiences at Expo 2017 Astana, while also promoting the hosting of Expo 2020 in Dubai, Dr Al Jaber said.
“The content and features of Expo 2020 Dubai will reflect its theme, Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, as we look forward to building momentum at Expo 2017 Astana. We will use this positive energy in Expo 2020 Dubai through the UAE’s principles of cooperation and partnership to build a better future around the world,” he said.
The design of the pavilion was inspired by the dunes of the Liwa desert, in Abu Dhabi’s Empty Quarter, and interior walls are illuminated with projections of videos that display the future of the UAE’s energy sector.
Visitors to the UAE pavilion will also be able to explore the past, present and future of the country’s sustainability sector through a creative 270-degree wrap-around film.
Large-scale UAE projects including the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park and Masdar’s investments in clean energy projects across the Middle East are also on display.
