UAE libraries offer summer fun for children

DUBAI // Youngsters visiting the emirate's public libraries can enjoy a variety of fun activities in a special programme this summer.

Events focus on arts and crafts, Islamic lessons, personality and self-development under the "Our Summer is Arts and Culture" banner.

They are aimed at children between the ages of six and 12 and will be held at Al Safa, Al Mankhool, Al Rashidiya, Al Twar and Hatta public libraries.

"The Dubai public library branches are committed to strengthening and nurturing the skills of our future leaders through an extensive array of theoretical and practical activities that will spark their interest and encourage them to engage in productive dialogue," said Abdulrahman Ibrahim, head of the public library department at Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

The sessions will run from August 11 to September 5, from Sundays to Thursdays.

They will include Quran recitation courses, lessons about the Prophet Mohammed, and handicrafts.

Youngsters will also get lessons on etiquette, computer basics, writing in English, book reviews and Arabic calligraphy, plus Taekwondo, cooking classes, painting, and lessons on shopping wisely.

Registration for the programme begins on June 25 and costs Dh600 for public library members and Dh800 for non-members.

A valid Emirates ID of the child wishing to register is required.
