ABU DHABI // More than 34,000 children have benefitted from an Emirates Red Crescent clothing project for Eid Al Fitr.
The charity donated Eid clothing worth Dh1.4 million to 2,500 orphans in the UAE, and Dh1.65m to 31,750 orphans in 60 countries.
The clothes were distributed for Eid Al Fitr and the recipients included children affected by wars and conflicts or living in refugee camps and homeless shelters.
The project was promoted in Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan, countries hosting Syrian refugees and countries affected by natural disasters.
The clothing initiative is considered one of the most important Red Crescent seasonal projects for orphans, reported Wam, the state news agency. The charity sponsors about 100,000 orphans.
The authority hoped to bring joy to underprivileged children ahead of Eid this year, said Dr Mohammed Al Falahi, secretary general of Emirates Red Crescent.
The charity’s projects provide material, financial and other support to orphans, such as field visits to homes to check on their conditions.
