Commemoration Day, which was previously known as Martyrs’ Day, will be observed a day earlier than usual this year.

Ceremonies will be held by ministries and institutions across the country to mark the occasion on Thursday, November 29.

The UAE flag will be raised at half-mast at 8am on the day. A minute of silence will then be held at 11.30am, followed by the raising of the UAE flag and the national anthem to honour Emiratis who have died in the line of duty.

The occasion has not been declared a public holiday this year, as it has been in previous years, because the official date, November 30, falls on a Friday.

The event has been marked each year since 2015 following a decree by President Sheikh Khalifa.

Although there is no public holiday to mark Commemoration Day, residents will still receive a long weekend after the UAE cabinet announced December 2 and 3 will be a public holiday for both government and private sector employees.

Work will resume on Tuesday, December 4.

It will be the last public holiday of 2018.

After the National Day weekend, January 1, 2019 will be the next public holiday.
