Police officers from three emirates worked together to arrest two suspected drug smugglers.
The two Asian men were arrested in April in possession of 55 kilograms of heroin, said Colonel Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police.
One of the men was suspected of making international calls to try to smuggle large amounts of heroin into the country.
Col Hareb said the two men, who lived the Dibba area, were being monitored by the authorities.
A police team made up of officers from Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, and the Interior Ministry arrested the men and seized the illegal drugs.
“The first suspect, D D J B, and the second, D M M A, are considered two of the most active and dangerous drug smugglers,” said Col Hareb. “However, their criminal activities were under control and disclosed to the relevant security parties.”
Col Hareb said the first suspect admitted to smuggling heroin, but D M M A said the drugs belonged to D D J B and he was “merely transporting them”.
“The second suspect was hiding the narcotics in a big sack containing 52 plastic bags in the backseat of his vehicle.”
Col Hareb said the joint operation was unique and executed professionally. The case has been transferred to the public prosecution in Ras Al Khaimah.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
