Two Arab men have been arrested after they allegedly stole a bag containing Dh29,000 from a woman’s car, Ajman police said.
The victim withdrew the cash from a bank in the emirate and placed it in a bag in her car before visiting a shopping mall.
When she returned, she found one of the car’s windows had broken and the cash bag gone.
CID officers identified one suspect and arrested him. During questioning, police said, he admitted the robbery and directed police to the other man.
Both men had entered the UAE on visit visas. They were refereed to public prosecution to face trial.
Earlier this month UAE police warned bank customers to be careful when taking out large sums of cash after incidents were reported of people being followed. The criminals tailed bank customers about town, or even to their home, to wait until the cash was left unattended then made a grab for it.
In another scam alert, police warned women to watch out for criminals approaching female drivers claiming that their car had a problem. When the women went to help, the men would rob her. If she ignored the men, they would slash her car’s tyres and a gang member would pretend to come to her aid while an accomplice raided her car.
Police urged people not to fall for such scams or leave large amounts of money unattended.
