ABU DHABI // The trial of three Emiratis accused of the revenge killing of two Omani men is scheduled to start in the Criminal Court on Monday.
The men allegedly committed the murders in Al Ain on May 4 after the death of one of their relatives, who died in Oman on August 19, 2009. One of the two men found guilty of that murder was the brother of one of the two men killed in May.
A fourth man will be charged with selling rifles to the three defendants.
The May 4 killings occurred in Al Jimi in Al Ain but the judicial department decided to hear the case in the capital's court due to the controversy surrounding the case.
A 19-year-old Emirati, H, was killed on August 19, 2009 after leaving his house in Al Ain to visit a man in Al Bureimi, Oman, who claimed he could "cure people".
When he arrived he was murdered by two Omani men, age 35 and 58, one of whom gave him a potion that was supposed to bring him good luck.
The Omani criminal court sentenced the men to life in prison and ordered them to pay blood money to the dead man's family, but did not call for their execution.
The dead man's father appealed and asked for the death sentence, but his bid was rejected.
The prosecution alleges that the three Emiratis, unsatisfied with the lack of a death sentence, instead sought their own revenge.
