UAE flights to New York disrupted by blizzard

Passengers flying between the UAE and New York are likely to face more flight disruptions today after a blizzard shut down New York's three metropolitan airports.

The blizzard, which dumped more than 60 centimetres of snow near New York City, closed all the city's airports and stymied most other transportation. The John F Kennedy and LaGuardia international airports re-opened in phases last night, while flights were expected to begin arriving at the airport in Newark, New Jersey, later in the night.

Dubai carrier Emirates was forced to divert yesterday's EK203 to Chicago and is scheduled to continue the flight today depending on the weather conditions. It also diverted its EK201 service to Toronto but the flight has since arrived at JFK.

Abu Dhabi's Etihad also diverted its EY101 to Chicago and delayed its EY100 flight, which was scheduled to depart today.

Return flights to the UAE from New York also face disruptions.
