UAE delivers 200 buses to Egypt

ABU DHABI // The UAE has delivered 200 buses to Egypt, the first instalment in its promise to donate 600 buses to the public transport authority in Cairo.

A ceremony in Cairo’s Abdeen Square to mark the arrival of the vehicles was attended by Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and head of the coordination office, and Dr Jalal Mustafa Saeed, the Mayor of Cairo.

The consignment included 100 buses manufactured by Abu Dhabi-based Hafilat Industries and another 100 buses from JB Polo Buses Manufacturing in Egypt.

Al Ittihad, the sister newspaper of The National, reported that up to 600,000 residents of the Egyptian capital are expected to use the buses, which could help reduce the chronic traffic congestion in the city.
