DUBAI // Two car parks will now be able to direct vehicles to empty spaces, in what marks the completion of the first phase of the Roads and Transport Authority’s Smart Parking project.
Covered, controlled parking will now be available at Al Rigga and World Trade Centre areas.
The project aims to provide motorists with information on the number of parking spaces available and then direct them to vacant bays.
“The RTA has completed the link of the central system with the basic components of the project (e-signs, ground and overhead sensors) in public parking in Dubai as well as multi-level parking terminals and Dubai Mall car parking,” said Mohammed Al Shareef, director of intelligent traffic systems at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.
“Thus, motorists can use the RTA app to identify vacant parking slots in a smooth and smart manner.”
The first phase of the project is part of the RTA’s intention to provide smart services to the public as part of Dubai Government’s Smart City initiative.
Parking information will also be shown in Arabic and English on e-signs on streets.
“The RTA has fully completed the project works at Al Rigga following the installation of about 2,000 ground sensors,” said Mr Al Shareef.
“Work progress has reached 84 per cent in the area of the World Trade Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road, involving the installation of 59 overhead cameras followed by the installation of electronic smart directional signs.”
The project will be completed by the end of April.
“The project is tailored to the needs of road users in view of the growing requirement of the public for using effective technological devices in dealing with parking,” added Mr Al Shareef.
