Two men died and a third was badly injured in a road accident in Sharjah.
The driver lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road after suffering a burst tyre while travelling at high speed.
The car overturned three times, coming to a stop 73-metres from the highway in a stretch of desert.
The incident took place at about 4.30pm on Monday on Mahafez-Nazwa Road.
Emergency services were sent to the scene and found a driver and his two passengers, all Emirati, were involved in the crash.
"Two of them died while the third man was rushed to the hospital," said Lt Col Mohammed Alai Al Naqbi, director of Sharjah Police's Traffic and Patrol department.
He said the left back tyre of the vehicle had blown out, but excessive speeding had contributed to the tragic accident.
“It [the vehicle] overturned three times before it landed in the sand 73 metres away,” he said.
“The burst tyre was found 205 metres away from the car.”
The force urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and regularly check their tyres.
Last year, the Federal Traffic Council launched an awareness campaign warning motorists of the dangers of driving with poorly maintained tyres.

'Worse than a prison sentence'
Marie Byrne, a counsellor who volunteers at the UAE government's mental health crisis helpline, said the ordeal the crew had been through would take time to overcome.
“It was worse than a prison sentence, where at least someone can deal with a set amount of time incarcerated," she said.
“They were living in perpetual mystery as to how their futures would pan out, and what that would be.
“Because of coronavirus, the world is very different now to the one they left, that will also have an impact.
“It will not fully register until they are on dry land. Some have not seen their young children grow up while others will have to rebuild relationships.
“It will be a challenge mentally, and to find other work to support their families as they have been out of circulation for so long. Hopefully they will get the care they need when they get home.”
