Thousands of Audi cars are being recalled in the UAE over safety fears regarding potentially explosive airbags.
The Ministry of Economy's Consumer Protection Department has ordered the recall of 3,511 Audi A4, A4 Cabriolet and A6 models.
The Audi vehicles are affected by faulty passenger airbags manufactured by parts supplier Takata. The airbags were found to be at risk of exploding when they are deployed after long-term exposure to high heat and humidity.
“This could cause small metal parts to become dislodged from the housing and potentially injure a vehicle occupant,” according to a safety recall notice.
The Audis were manufactured between 2005 and 2011.
Both Al Nabooda Automobiles, the Audi distributor in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Ali and Sons, which covers Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, will contact affected customers. Customers can also contact Al Nabooda on 8002834 or Ali and Sons on 02 502 6564 to book an appointment.

A total of 176 Dodge Challenger vehicles, manufactured between December 2016 and April 2018, are also the subject of a recall order due to the use of tyres that do not comply with regional standards.
“The Firestone Firehawk model tires on the above vehicles have not been certified to comply with the requirements of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Standardisation Organisation (GSO) and the Saudi Arabian Standards Organisation (SASO) for use in the United Arab Emirates,” a recall notice stated.
Affected road users will receive a set of four tyres free of charge that are certified safe for use in the United Arab Emirates.
Trading Enterprises, the distributor of the Dodge brand in the UAE, will contact affected customers. Anyone with a model subject to the recall can also contact Trading Enterprises on 600 534 441 to book an appointment.

Know before you go
- Jebel Akhdar is a two-hour drive from Muscat airport or a six-hour drive from Dubai. It’s impossible to visit by car unless you have a 4x4. Phone ahead to the hotel to arrange a transfer.
