SHARJAH // One person was killed and three others injured after a fire broke out on board a ship off the coast of Sharjah.
The ship had sailed from port Khalid and was 5 nautical miles off the coast when the accident happened. It had a crew of 5, said Col Khaled Obaid bin Kanoun, acting director general of Sharjah Civil Defence.
He said the operations room was notified of the fire at around 9am on Monday.
“We managed to rescue four people and one was missing,” said Col bin Kanoun. “After a thorough search around the sea his body was found and retrieved.”
He added the ship sank despite efforts to put out the blaze. The injured crew suffered burns and were taken to Kuwait Hospital for treatment.
Col bin Kanoun said the cause of the blaze was not yet known and is still being investigated.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
