Man killed after car bursts into flame in Umm Al Quwain

UMM AL QUWAIN // A Pakistani expatriate burned to death after his vehicle rolled over and caught fire on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Police received a call at 8.30am on Saturday alerting them to a car that had come off the road and burst into flames, said Col Saeed Obeid bin Aaran, head of the Traffic and Patrols Department.

The 32-year-old motorist had been driving from Ras Al Khaimah to Dubai when his vehicle swerved suddenly into oncoming traffic, colliding with a lorry.

Firefighters and rescue vehicles from Civil Defence, the police and the National Ambulance Company immediately rushed to the scene, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.

After the fire was put out, the body was taken to a local hospital.

The accident is believed to have been caused as a result of speeding and inattention. Col Obeid asked road users to stay alert and cautious while driving and to comply with specified speed limits so as to ensure the safety of all road users.
