An Asian girl was killed while trying to cross Sheikh Zayed Road during the morning rush hour traffic on Sunday, according to Dubai Police.
The girl, whose age or name was not released, was run over by a small car on the Dubai-bound side of Sheikh Zayed Road at around 8am.
She was declared dead at the scene.
The accident caused major tailbacks as thousands of commuters were driving towards Dubai from Abu Dhabi.
Traffic ground to a slow crawl as emergency crews rushed to the scene between the eighth and ninth street bridges.
By 10:30am, traffic returned to normal.
