FUJAIRAH // Illegal drag racing in Al Bidya has decreased following complaints to police from residents.
Brigadier Mohammed Al Tunaiji, deputy chief commander of Fujairah Police, said racing in the area is becoming less prevalent and the traffic department are considering installing cameras in the area.
The National's Arabic-language sister newspaper, Al Ittihad, received complaints from Al Bidya residents about the drag racing but asked to remain anonymous.
Brig Al Tunaiji said a team of officers was assigned to carry out surveillance and follow-up in the area.
Only two cases of drag racing occurred after patrols were heightened, he said. The racers were taken into custody and the cars impounded. The parents of those involved were informed also.
