Free afternoon parking in Sharjah is cancelled

SHARJAH // Free afternoon parking in the city has been cancelled, Sharjah Municipality decided on Sunday.

Previously parking between the hours of 1pm and 5pm was free but this has been changed to paid parking in a effort to limit the misuse of parking spaces by motorists in the emirate.

Paid parking is in effect across Sharjah city from 10am to 1pm, and it was free from 1pm until 5pm before paid parking resumes until 10pm.

According to a statement on Sharjah Municipality’s website, council members discussed the cancellation of free parking to enable shoppers to find parking spaces, especially near shops and souqs.

The statement said that some motorists abuse the free parking and that affects those who have a genuine reason for needing spaces near shops and souqs.

The council members agreed to stop the free parking in the afternoon and said it would be enforced after the public were informed through the media.
