Four more die on roads in two days

ABU DHABI // Four more people have died on the emirate's roads over the past two days - bringing the number of traffic deaths since the eve of Eid to eight.

Two pedestrians were killed yesterday - one in Abu Dhabi city and another in Al Ain.

Two people also died and several others injured in a five-vehicle collision on Tuesday. The accident happened at 8.15pm near Al Taweelah Bridge. All of the casualties were Indians.

Col Hamad Al Baloushi, head of traffic police for the external Abu Dhabi regions, said the smash was caused by speeding.

The initial crash had a domino effect on other vehicles, causing them to collide with one another.

Those hurt suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Ahmad Al Mansouri, head of patient affairs at Al Rahba Hospital, said 10 of the victims were admitted to hospital.

"Seven were released immediately as they only had minor injuries," he said. "The remaining three stayed overnight and will be released today."

On Monday, four people died in three accidents on Abu Dhabi's roads.

Col Al Baloushi urged drivers to take precautions and slow down at pedestrian crossings. "People should enjoy themselves during Eid but do so responsibly," he said. "They should drive safely and stay alert."
