ABU DHABI // Thousands of CCTV cameras will monitor Abu Dhabi city and surrounding areas.
The Falcon Eye system covers the capital’s main and surrounding islands, international airport and the Bani Yas and Mussaffah areas with surveillance cameras installed on roads and buildings, reported Wam, the state news agency.
The Abu Dhabi Monitoring and Control Centre said Falcon Eye’s main function is to monitor roads and highways and manage traffic flow in and around the city.
The system will monitor traffic violations such as the use of the hard shoulder, illegal parking and the misuse of roads as well as public health issues and gatherings in non-dedicated areas.
Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police and ADMCC Board Chairman, said the system was “part of the vision of Abu Dhabi to pursue its efforts to build a confident and safe society”.
The centre’s Director-General, Saeed Saif Al Neyadi, said the surveillance cameras would help “provide a suitable environment for the emirate’s progress and growth”.
