Emirati student killed as she crossed road behind school bus

FUJAIRAH // A 17-year-old Emirati student was killed by a vehicle in Dibba Al Fujairah as she crossed the road just after getting off a school bus.

The accident took place at 11am yesterday in Al Ghurfa. The student, Nadia Obaid Rashid, was taken to hospital where she was declared dead at 6.20pm.

Major Saeed Al Hassani, head of public relations and moral guidance at Fujairah Police, said she was hit as she walked out into the street from behind the bus. He said the impact with the vehicle was so strong she was flung 18m away.

Mr Al Hassani added that the victim was not on her usual bus home, which would usually leave her right outside her house. Instead, she was dropped off on the opposite side of the road.

He urged motorists to exercise caution when driving near school buses.

Real estate tokenisation project

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.

The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.

Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
