Two Emirati brothers, aged 27 and 17, died in a car accident on Thursday while driving down one of the country's main motorways.
The brothers were north-bound on Emirates Road, headed for Shimal in Ras Al Khaimah.
At around 5pm, something caused the elder brother to lose control of the steering wheel and veer off the road. The car flipped several times and was destroyed, crushing the two inside.
Ras Al Khaimah Police were alerted and immediately dispatched patrols and an ambulance to the area.
Paramedics found one of the two dead on arrival while the other had suffered severe injuries. He was rushed to hospital but later died of his injuries.
Brig Gen Ahmed Al Naqbi, director of Traffic and Patrols Department, said initial investigations showed the driver lost control of the SUV and swerved. The quick change in direction caused the car to flip. The windows, windshield and sunroof shattered while the bonnet and cab of the car crumpled.
He called on motorists to be completely alert while driving and abide by traffic laws to "preserve their safety and prevent such deadly accidents."

Closing the loophole on sugary drinks
As The National reported last year, non-fizzy sugared drinks were not covered when the original tax was introduced in 2017. Sports drinks sold in supermarkets were found to contain, on average, 20 grams of sugar per 500ml bottle.
The non-fizzy drink AriZona Iced Tea contains 65 grams of sugar – about 16 teaspoons – per 680ml can. The average can costs about Dh6, which would rise to Dh9.
Drinks such as Starbucks Bottled Mocha Frappuccino contain 31g of sugar in 270ml, while Nescafe Mocha in a can contains 15.6g of sugar in a 240ml can.
Flavoured water, long-life fruit juice concentrates, pre-packaged sweetened coffee drinks fall under the ‘sweetened drink’ category
Not taxed:
Freshly squeezed fruit juices, ground coffee beans, tea leaves and pre-prepared flavoured milkshakes do not come under the ‘sweetened drink’ band.
