Dubai commuters can now pay for public transport trips using their phones thanks to a new digital initiative.
An app version of the emirate’s smart pass, known as a Nol card, can be downloaded on to Huawei devices and used to travel by bus, metro, tram or ferry.
“The new RTA Nol Pay app works with Huawei Wallet to enable residents in the emirate to quickly pay for their public transport journeys from their Huawei smartphones,” said Mohammed Al Mudharreb, chief executive of the Roads and Transport Authority’s corporate technology support services.
“This innovative solution is the first of its kind by the RTA and we aim to bring added convenience to Huawei smartphone users.
“This new app also aligns with our overall digital transformation strategy to adopt fourth industrial revolution technologies into Dubai’s transport sector.”
Pablo Ning, president of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, for the Middle East and Africa, said the company was proud to be working with the RTA on the project.
“By partnering with esteemed entities like the RTA, we look forward to continuing to support the innovation agenda of the UAE government,” he said.
The new app is available on the Huawei AppGallery.
