DUBAI // Five-hundred and eighty motorists had their licences confiscated last year for racking up 24 or more black points, Dubai Police said.
That total was made up of 244 Emiratis, 159 Pakistanis, 124 Indians and 224 from other countries, said Col Saif Al Mazrouei, director of the General Department of Traffic.
In 2013, Dubai Police confiscated 715 driving licences, of which 239 belonged to Emiratis, 123 Pakistanis, 117 Indians and 245 belonged to people of other nationalities.
Meanwhile, Col Al Mazrouei said that the force had issued 8,495 fines last year to drivers who either parked in front of a fire hydrant or in disabled spaces.
Parking illegally in disabled spaces carries a Dh1,000 fine and four black points.
Driving licences are confiscated for three months the first time the 24 black point limit is reached. On the second occasion the confiscation period is six months and then one year for the third time, returned only after drivers pass a traffic safety course.
