The video, distributed on the police's social media channels, shows horrific cases of pedestrians being hit while they are trying to cross busy roads – whether at crossings or jaywalking. In the video posted by police on Monday morning, a car is seen ploughing into a cyclist crossing a road and several pedestrians are also seen in collision with speeding cars as they try to cross a busy highway on a designated walking zone. Refusing to stop at a pedestrian crossing to allow people to walk safely across the road can result in hefty fines. Drivers who do not give way to pedestrians on a designated crossing face fines of Dh500 and six black points, and driving in a way that endangers civilians carries a Dh1,000 fine and 12 black points.
