  • The National was on Etihad Airways' inaugural flight to Copenhagen, which launched on October 1. The capital of Denmark is one of Scandinavia's most popular destinations and is famous for its Nyhavn district – with the colourful houses lining the canals – cafe culture and Tivoli Gardens, the world's oldest theme park. The Abu Dhabi airline has moved to cater to the high demand for travel by also opening new routes to Dusseldorf and Osaka.
  • Flydubai has several launches on the horizon including a daily flight to Cairo from October 28. The day after, services to Poznan, in western Poland, will begin. It is known for its universities and old town with Renaissance-style buildings, and will be the airline's third destination in the country. They will be followed by flights to Mombasa, Kenya, from January 17, as well as Penang and Langkawi in Malaysia from February 10.
  • From November 1, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi will start operating services to Sphinx International Airport, Cairo, offering an affordable new route between the UAE capital and Egypt on Wednesdays and Sundays. The low-cost carrier also launched a route to Erbil, the ancient capital of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq, on October 6. Fares start at Dh289 ($78).
