Three saved from drowning in two separate incidents near Burj Al Arab hotel

DUBAI // Two men and a woman were saved from drowning in two separate incidents close to the Burj Al Arab hotel.

Maj Ali Al Naqbi, head of maritime rescue at the transport and rescue administration at Dubai Police, said rescue teams saved a young man and his female friend, both Asian, after receiving reports of people in trouble in the water near hotel.

Officers gave first aid and ensured both people were stable before taking them to hospital for further treatment. Maj Al Naqbi said the man and woman were pulled under by strong currents and high waves.

In a separate incident, the rescue team also pulled a man out of the water after he got into difficulties. He was transported to hospital for treatment. Dubai police did not say when either incident took place.

Maj Al Naqbi warned swimmers not to go outside dedicated area, to avoid swimming in strong currents and high waves and to pay attention to red flags indicating that conditions are dangerous to avoid the risk of drowning.

He also urged the public to call 999 to report any emergency and give clear directions to the location so as to allow patrols to respond quickly.
